The role of the Strategic Environmental Assessment Protocol for the year 2003 in the protection of the environment and health

Abstract

   The study  delves into the Strategic Environmental Assessment Protocol, which was ratified in 2003 and appended to the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Framework of 1991, specifically its role in protecting the environment and health, which is evident by its provisions that emphasizing the importance of incorporating environmental and health considerations when developing plans and programs related to the implementation of industrial and development projects as well as various activities. On this context, to the current research addresses the concept of strategic environmental assessment and the general provisions of the protocol, in addition to the mechanism for conducting a strategic environmental assessment of the plans and programs concerned, with reference to the preparation of the environmental report, and the requirements for the participation of the public and environmental health institutions in providing inputs and contributing to the environmental decision, which is all in the realm of environmental preservation and health overall health status.
