The extent to which civic education values are included in the content of middle school social studies textbooks
Abstract
The current research aimed to investigate the extent to which civic education values are included in the content of social textbooks for the middle school . The current research used the descriptive approach, using the content analysis method. To achieve the goal of researching the extent to which civic education values are included in the content of social studies textbooks for grades (first, second, and third) of the intermediate stage in the Republic of Iraq, the research presented a list consisting of (22) values for civic education. By analyzing the social studies books, the research reached the following results: The total number of repetitions for the three books amounted to (135) repetitions, distributed into (71) repetitions for the social studies book for the third intermediate grade, with a percentage of (52.6%) of the total number of repetitions, while the repetitions amounted to The social studies book for the second intermediate grade had 43 repetitions, with a percentage of (31.8%) of the total number of repetitions. The total number of repetitions in the social studies book for the first intermediate grade was (21) repetitions, with a percentage of (15.6%) of the total number. The research presented a set of proposals, the most important of which are: developing independent programs and curricula in civic education for middle school students in Iraq. Include units in the Social and National Curriculum that emphasize the philosophy and values of civic education, for the various stages of education.
