The citing of Mutamam bin Nuwaira poetry in grammar and language books

Abstract

The research deals with the study of the poetry of Mutamam bin Nuwaira, which came as a linguistic witness to grammatical and morphological issues; his poetry was cited by the ancients, foremost among them the imam of grammarians Sibawayh, Al-Mubarrad, Ibn Al-Sarraj, Ibn Khalawayh, Ibn Malik, Al-Suyuti and others. The research counted twelve witnesses scattered in the books of the ancients, eight of which were on grammatical issues, and four on morphological issues. Some of them were witnesses relied upon by more than one linguist, and some of them were not used by more than one linguist, and some of them were cited on more than one issue, and some of them were witnesses that came alone in their category and the ancients did not cite anything else, being satisfied with them.
