Abstract

The Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, which Eritrea overlooks, are of particular importance in the map of international and regional interests. The region has witnessed a significant growth in the presence of many international and regional powers, especially in the early 1960s. Most of the Horn of Africa countries gained independence, and colonialism left behind unprecedented border conflicts, perhaps most notably the Eritrean-Ethiopian conflict. The latter received support from Israel, the archenemy of the Arab states. These conflicts represented an important source of security threats to the countries of the region, including Syria, which, from the beginning of the conflict, supported the rights of the Eritrean people and their just cause. This position was pioneering in principle, and Syria did not give it up. Rather, it generously provided support, represented by uninterrupted material, military, media, diplomatic and cultural support. These facts represented an impetus for studying the subject under the title (Syria's Position on the Eritrean-Ethiopian Conflict 1961-1991) .
