Abstract

This research aims to identify the difficulties of teaching and learning Arabic rhetoric in the preparatory stage from the point of view of Arabic language teachers. The researchers followed the descriptive research method, and the research sample consisted of (30) male and female teachers who were randomly selected from Arabic language teachers in the Al-Rifai Education Department/Dhi Qar Education Directorate. To achieve the research objective, the researchers prepared a questionnaire consisting of (27) paragraphs distributed over (3) main areas that include various difficulties with a three-tiered gradation. After verifying its validity and reliability, the questionnaire was applied to the research sample. After statistically processing the data, the researchers reached several results that show the nature of those difficulties, including: the weakness of the students' linguistic stock, and that most texts containing the arts of rhetoric do not concern themselves with clarifying the rhetorical rule, as they were presented in a brief manner, and therefore they are difficult to understand and apply, in addition to the ineffectiveness of the teaching methods employed in teaching them. In light of the results, the researchers presented a set of recommendations and suggestions.
