The role of Islamic Sharia and its jurisprudential provisions in achieving sustainable development
Abstract
The term sustainable development has been mentioned in Islamic law within multiple topics, the common denominator of which is moderation and balance in dealing with natural resources, and moderation in social relations, on the personal and public levels. These topics represent important theories in economic, political, and social aspects, which correct human behavior, making obedience to divine commands a true guarantee of sustainable development for all people, regardless of whether they are Muslims or non-Muslims. However, the spread of these theories in the form of commands and instructions in the fields of Islamic knowledge has made them unknown to some people, to the point that some have the audacity to accuse Islamic law of a weak ability to accommodate the emerging needs of humans. This research demonstrates the role of Islamic law in nurturing and achieving sustainable development in people's lives, by examining the noble Qur'anic verses related to the topic, as well as examining the fragrant biography of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) and his family (peace be upon them), and exposing the attempts of jurists in the field of theory based on Islamic law, to be a useful starting point for those who have the ability to expand their research.
